I'M GONNA CHASE THE DARK CLOUDS AWAY I KNOW THE SUN WILL FOLLOW THE RAIN, C'MON AND HELP ME Technically, right now it was lunchtime. Most of the students at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry were in the Great Hall enjoying their meal and chatting merrily, or else up in the library in a frantic attempt to complete an unfinished assignment that was due after lunch ended. Polly had no outstanding assignments to complete, but she didn't feel particularly hungry, and so had found herself wandering about the ground floor. Her Hufflepuff tie was slightly crooked, and her hair was braided into two pigtails because one of her dormmates had insisted that she be allowed to style someone's hair and she had been the only one who agreed to let her give it a try, but other than that she looked perfectly normal. The pigtails were a little lopsided too. Everyone else had gotten right out before their hair could be put up into a haphazard bun or the like, but she had taken pity and helped her housemate out. And this was what she got for it...
She shouldn't complain. Having one braided pigtail slightly larger than the other wasn't the end of the world, and it had made someone happy that she had sat still for it. Wearing it for the rest of the day would make her happy too. Plus, in lessons people were generally busy paying attention and taking notes to worry about other people's hairstyles and their lopsided-ness (unless they were attempting to take a surreptitious nap in the back of the classroom and not paying attention to anything at all). I'm just worrying as usual is all. Strange how she managed to turn every little inconvienience into the end of the world. There were muggle wars for that, they didn't need her help.
Smiling now, she strolled along into the paved courtyard, where several other people were lingering about to chat or passing through from lessons farther away from the Great Hall like Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures. In the case of the two older students that passed her, it was a toss up as to which one. They carried a strong scent of manure, but Care of Magical Creatures might occasionally work with dirt. She wouldn't know, she hadn't signed up for that subject when the sheet of electives came around in their third year. It implied dirt and whatnot. She didn't mind the plants in the Herbology greenhouse when they weren't attempting to sneak up behind and strangle her, but she would probably drop it when she got to her sixth year because she detested leaving every class period with the scent of dirt lingering about her person and actual dirt lingering underneath her fingernails. She liked to remain nice and clean, thank you.
The two older students passed by on their way inside, talking about a Snargaluff pod. Sounded more like Herbology. She almost laughed a little at her foolishness, again over-complicating the matter by spending a good minute wondering which of the two classes held out on the grounds they had been coming from, but felt it might be construed as rude, that she had been laughing at them. One of the two had been wearing a Slytherin tie, no need to provoke him. She nodded and smiled when one of the people crossing through the courtyard waved politely to her - an acquaintance of her family, the Abbot boy in the year below her. She knew quite a few people that way, just on the level of casual passerby that would nod or wave to her to show recognition. They weren't really friends, but it was nice to feel like she knew people around the school.
She approached the fountain in the center of the courtyard, drawn to the only significant water source in the area like a moth to the flame. And that had been a terrible choice of metaphor, she hated fire. It frightened her, so wild and destructive. But she loved playing in the water. It was getting chilly as winter set upon them, though there had been no snow this week, but in her mind water connected to happy summers playing in the lake near their house with her brothers. Just laughing, having fun as children do before going off to school and having an education drilled into their skulls. Polly reached down and gently dipped her hands into the freezing water, then pulled them up and watched the water trickle back down. Her hands were pretty cold, but it was fun.

I'm the saddest words you've spoken, I'm a promise broken.
A rush of students in the hallways signaled to Jack that it was indeed lunchtime. A much needed break from terribly long and boring classes. He strolled down he hallways slowly as the students started fading from the area. He heard the noise from the welcoming Great Hall as they all twittered about and chattered amongst themselves noisly. He flashed a small grin to several giggling girls left behind the large movement. As they continued to walk he stopped at the doorway and sighed. It was nice out. Beautiful, actually. Stepping outside into the warm weather, a calming sensation flowed over him slowly.
Being alone for Jack was not really a problem. He never sought out others to surrouned himself with, usually they flocked to him instead. Being alone was a welcomed change from the norm. Running a hand through his ever messy dark hair Jack kept walking. One hand in his pocket, the other hanging down his side. He spotted a girl by herself at the fountaon. He smirked to himself, work your magic Jack. he thought to himself as he removed his wand from his robes.
With a gentle swaying motion the water moved up from the pool in the fountain and moved slowly around the girl wrapping it gently around her in a spiral, but not touching her mind you, it just fell softly back into the pool. He chuckled and put his wand away hoping she'd look back and he'd look as not innocent as ever. He sat on the side of the fountain his back to her as sort of a practical joke if you will.
ooc; im sorry this is so bad, and late. my computer wasn't working =[

I'M GONNA CHASE THE DARK CLOUDS AWAY I KNOW THE SUN WILL FOLLOW THE RAIN, C'MON AND HELP ME She had been amusing herself by dipping her fingers into the freezing water and watching it fall back down to the fountain. Since she wasn't especially hungry, this was more interesting than picking at a plate of turkey at the Hufflepuff table for lunch. And much less stressful than running into any of the Slytherins in her year or above. They liked to pick on her, throw her things around and push her over. She had been told by others - her friends, not the Slytherins - that they picked on her because she didn't stand up for herself enough. It wasn't that, not really, she just...she wasn't really pushy or aggressive, so people weren't afraid to go after her because she wasn't going to shout at them. Maybe that was not sticking up for herself, but she was a pacifist.
But this was odd. The water was moving on its own all of a sudden, rising from the fountain to spiral around her, surrounding her. Her mouth was open in shock, but it wasn't hurting her, so she remained as still as she could manage. A defense mechanism to a situation she didn't understand, a stopping in place and hoping it would go away if she closed her eyes sort of approach. Polly didn't actually close her eyes, because she was afraid that something worse might happen if she wasn't looking and watching the water flying around her to make sure it wasn't attempting to hit her in the face. Actually, it was kind of pretty.
The water fell away soon enough, splashing gently down into the pool and looking as innocent as ever a moment later when the water settled again. She stumbled back from the fountain and looked away to face the rest of the courtyard. It hadn't technically been harming her, but just in case, she put some distance between herself and the water. Wait a second, water doesn't animate itself... She cast a worried look around at the courtyard, trying to determine who else there might have made the water spring into the air. Older student, older student, first year...none of those people would have any reason whatsoever to have done that, but if water was suddenly becoming possessed around the school she would have to seriously rethink her whole outlook on life.

first of let me start by apologizing thoroughly. My computer has a virus and rarely lets me online lol. so ill attempt to get on every couple of days.
Watching the girl Jack chuckled to himself. He saw her look around at all of the others and did it again as soon as she looked away. Moving his wrist in the same fashion the water rose up again and this time gently brushed her hand leaving a small drop behind. It sank back into the pool as everyone left leaving the two of them alone in the courtyard. Sitting again with his back to her he smiled to himself before standing.
Hopefully I didn't scare you." he said in a deep voice rounding the fountain to face the girl. She was pretty, brunettes were after all his favorite. "Jack." he said, smooth voice almost as creamy as his skin and as easy to swallow as his looks. He exteneded a large hand for her to shake and he smiled. Yes, Jack was indeed quite concieted, its not a secret. "Do you mind?" he asked politely beckoning to a seat beside her on the fountain.
He smiled at her sweetly pondering her personality slightly. "Are you by any chance in Hufflepuff?" he asked quietly. Jack prided himself on two things: his ability to read people, and his good looks. He could tell, she was quiet, shy, and probably incredibly smart as well. He watched her carefully waiting to hear her voice.
