Joshua O'Neill , I'll have you know that I've become indestructible Determination that is incorruptable On the other side a terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable The winter air was cold, although to one such as himself it was little more than an annoyance. Josh had been up since the early hours of the morning, long before the sun had crested the horizon. More than a fair few of the professors had assumed that he would be unable to be out in the sunlight, although a casual laugh was all they tended to get in response. The sunlight myth had been the easiest to disprove, and he marveled at how people still seemed to hold onto it, regardless of how illogical it was. If vampires couldn't come out during the day, it would make them fairly easy to identify. Perhaps at some point in the past, this rumor had held some sort of truth, although now that simply was not the case. He moved on cat's paws, the silence unbroken as he slowly made his way down the steps of the great castle.
It had been quite the walk from Ravenclaw tower, although it had barely phased him. Tonight was the night he had waited for all week, the one night that he allowed himself to give in entirely to his primal instincts. One of the rumors about his kind was true, and it was because of that that he had ventured out alone at this time of night. It had been nearly a week since the last time he had fed, and as he stepped into the comforting darkness of the Forbidden Forest, he could feel his anticipation rising. If he had been asked even a year ago about vampires, he would have shrugged the question off. Very little seemed to actually be known about them, most of his knowledge having come from trial and error. He had been turned only three months prior, a mishap suffered in this very forest. Oh yes, there was good reasoning for the forest to be forbidden, although luckily few of the students were ever forced to really learn that.
Many creatures prowled through these trees, although very few of them actually gave him cause for alarm. On occasion there would be packs of werewolves, one of the few things that actually made him nervous. He typically only graced these forests once a week, just for long enough to feed. Seeing tracks heading down toward a small stream, Josh began to be on the lookout, constantly vigilant for both predators and prey. The tracks indicated deer, something that he had learned to enjoy hunting in the recent weeks. Their fleet footedness made them a difficult quarry, and their senses were sharp enough to hear even him. As he neared the stream, and a small clearing that surrounded it however, he realized that he had made a crucial mistake. In his anticipation he had overlooked the tracks beneath those of the deer. Tracks belonging distinctly to a human. A human who now stood in the clearing, and probably wondered what in the devil he was doing out at such an hour.

------------------------------------------------------------------- AND THE MORALS THEY ALL WORSHIP WILL BE GONE ! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Sitting in her usual corner at her usual desk sat Miss Minerva Mcgonagall. Her long brown hair fell over her face as she read the paper in front of her over and over again. The girl had to study and get the good grades she deserved. There was a big test tomorrow in transfiguration and, although, Minerva was one of Dumbledore’s favorite students and, despite her perfect grades in the class, she was a little worried. This unit was quite difficult and she had not taken time out yet to study for it. If she got anything less than an O on this exam, Minerva would have to behead herself. Through all of her study efforts, Minerva was consciously checking her watch every few seconds. It was getting on late into the evening, and Minerva had prefect duty tonight. At eight o’ clock, Minerva started to get nervous. She would have to leave in forty five minutes in order to be early for prefect duty at nine o’ clock, but she still didn’t feel prepared for this exam. There was so much material on it and there was a practical part. Although she felt rather confident on the practical part of the exam, she always had her doubts. What if while she was pointing her wand at the bloody rodent, it moved at the last minute and jumped through the window and she accidently changed her quill into a nightingale. That would just be awful. Minerva shuddered at the thought. She couldn’t let that happen. In the morning she would have to practice speaking the spell clearly and the wand movements. Not together though, until the exam time because she wouldn’t want to cause an accident of some sort to occur. That could ruin her chances of getting Head Girl. As Minerva never shirked her duties, even on the nights before tests, at eight forty-five precisely, she closed her book in order to make a large decent down to the Great Hall.
Sometimes Minerva really wished that the Gryffindor dormitories weren’t located on the seventh floor. The towers were very nice and she had always loved the common room and being able to see the quidditch pitch from her bed, but all the stairs. There were a lot of stairs to climb everyday and on those few days out of the year, when Minerva wasn’t feeling well or just wanted to scream, stairs were not very agreeable. Not to mention, Minerva was not the most graceful girl in the school. She kept her skirts proper and her head held high, however, Minerva just tripped over her own feet more than the usual girl in the school. Not many people saw it, but when stairs were involved, it could be a safety hazard. Anyway, tonight her partner was a Hufflepuff. They had agreed on the Great Hall as a good starting point because Minerva didn’t want to go all the way down to the Hufflepuff common room near the kitchens and she knew her partner did not want to climb all those damn stairs, so they compromised with the Great Hall because it seemed like a nice happy medium. Minerva was right on time as always. She was leaning against the doors to the Great Hall at precisely nine o’ clock to start a very long walk around the castle in order to prevent silly students from doing things that were against the rules. However, there was one problem. There was no Hufflepuff prefect. This immediately set Minerva in a sour mood. She pursed her lips and glanced toward the doors she should have seen him emerging from by now, but he wasn’t there. ‘Damn him.’ Minerva wrinkled her brow and glanced at her watch. Three minutes had gone by, he was going to make her late. And if there was one thing Minerva hated more than being late, it was people who made her late. She just didn’t understand. Did he forget? Why hadn’t he at least sent her an owl? So, she didn’t feel like a complete dunderhead for standing there and not starting already.
Minerva was fuming. She decided that she would only give him two more minutes, if he wasn’t here by nine o’ five, then she was going without him. She had things to do. How dare he waste her time. In her anger, she hadn’t noticed the Hufflepuff boy come up to her. It took her a few minutes to realize he was standing next to her stammering out an apology for being late. Minerva sighed, rolled her eyes and said, “Its okay, you’re here now, let’s go.” She waved her hand, motioning for him to follow her, but he didn’t move. “S…sorry, Minerva, but I can’t.” Minerva whipped her head around, “What?” Her voice was icy. He was late and standing her up. He shrugged and gave some sap story about how he was failing transfigurations and if he didn’t pass this test tomorrow, it would be the end of his life. Minerva sighed, “Oh just fuck it.” Minerva cursed her partner. Was this even allowed? Leaving a fellow comrade in order to study? Minerva was checking it in the rulebook when she finished her rounds. The boy had always been good company and extremely polite. So, Minerva was probably overreacting, she knew she was probably overreacting, but she secretly hated patrolling alone. Minerva might give off the tough girl, I can do whatever I want attitude, but the castle was frightening at night. Especially alone, that’s why the buddy system was invented. There was a rumor going around, that back when prefects secured the halls at nights alone, people would go missing inside the castle and then not reappear until weeks later. It was frightening to think about. A shudder ran through Minerva as she headed out on her own. Only a few hours, She consoled herself. The worst Minerva had even run into was a few sixth years making out in a broom closet. So, what could go wrong?
Time passed slowly, but the rounds went smoothly. There didn’t seem to be anyone running through the halls causing mischief. At least as far as Minerva could tell. After checking out all the dungeons, Minerva was done. Three hours. It took her three hours to do her job, but Minerva did everything to perfection. The professors thought very highly of her and it would break Minerva’s heart to think that she let them down. Relieved to be done, Minerva came back up to the Great Hall from the dungeons. She was so happy that she could finish her studies and go to bed, probably by one if she was quick about it. Suddenly a form caught the corner of her eye. “Oh no.” Minerva froze and allowed her eyes to follow the figure that was leaving the building. Every instinct told her to alert Professor Dippet, but Minerva’s curiosity urged her forward. Taking a deep breath, Minerva followed the figure. Of course, she was worried, but the person didn’t look all that old. Then again, she had only caught a glimpse of the figure. Slipping out the Great Oak doors, Minerva had to pull her robes a bit tighter together, it was cold out as far as she was concerned. Her long, dark hair flew behind her in the wind as she ran after the retreating figure. It looked like it was heading for the forest. Please be a student. Minerva silently prayed as she ran after the figure into the woods. Standing in a clearing, Minerva quickly pulled out her wand and she looked this way and that. Where did it go? Minerva turned around in a full circle before she felt a sudden and familiar chill run up her spine. She felt eyes digging holes into her back. Turning slowly with her wand at the ready, Minerva met another set of eyes and had to choke down a scream. “Erm…” For once in her life Minerva was at a loss for words. All she could see were the bright eyes of another, and as she was no longer thinking straight, the idea of using her wand was almost lost to her.

Joshua O'Neill , I'll have you know that I've become indestructible Determination that is incorruptable On the other side a terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable For a moment he stood there in silence, the shock of the entire situation unfolding on him. He knew the girl for who she was instantly, as would most in the school. As a fellow prefect, he had patrolled with her many a night, and he knew her tenacity in following the rules to the letter. How then, could he persuade her to not go directly to the headmaster? Sure, the professors knew about his...condition, but how sympathetic would they be in this instance? All it would take would be for her to freak out, to express that she had no interest in attending school with someone like himself. A freak.
Sure, they two of them had gotten on fairly well in the past, although that meant nothing anymore. The sad truth of it all was that once something like this was let out of the bag, things simply weren't the same. This would be the test, he knew. Minerva would be the first of the students to learn his secret, and her reaction would determine much about how he carried himself in the comming months. Professor Dumbledore could go on and on about how he was barely different from the others, and how it all came down to his choice, although he had always thought otherwise. At the same time, he had always felt as if Dumbledore had known how he felt, and perhaps even silently encouraged him to think things through himself. He respected Dumbledore, but god was the man bloody annoying with his cryptic speeches that only he seemed to understand.
Knowing that he was caught, Josh knew there weren't many options. He could attack Minerva, although that would bring down the wrath of the entire staff, all of which knew his secret. His only other options were to run, and hope for the best, or to stay long enough to gage her reaction. He opted for the second option, knowing that running would only increase her suspicion. Were it someone else, someone not quite so intelligent, perhaps he would have merely disappeared into the night. He could have moved so quickly that she would have thought him nothing more than the wind. Yet for some reason, he had not done so. What had frozen him to the spot, made him unable to make the escape that he so longed to make. Shifting his thoughts back to the present, Josh decided to look his best at least, or the best he could without preparation. One hand quickly ran through his hair, giving it the ruffled look that had seemed to make such an impression on all the girls he'd encountered thus far.
The other hand moved to straighten his dark blue robe, the color of his house. The flowing robes came to right above his ankle, giving him room to move around comfortably. Mentally checking things off a list, Josh offered Minerva the best smile that he could manage, making sure to keep his razor sharp canines hidden from view. No doubt the girl already suspected him for what he was. No need to go off the deep end and give her a heart attack right here on the spot.

------------------------------------------------------------------- AND THE MORALS THEY ALL WORSHIP WILL BE GONE ! ------------------------------------------------------------------- The silence of the forest was overwhelming. Minerva could hear her own heart beat. The pace, the speed her heart was beating could not have been a healthy beat. It was moving so quickly. Minerva was afraid it was going to burst through her throat. Without the unnecessary thudding in her ears, there was nothing else to listen too. This was the deadest forest Minerva had ever been in. She could remember the days when her father would take her on a joyous walk through the woods. Maybe it was because it was dark out, maybe it was because there seemed to be no animals, or maybe it was because Minerva could hardly get a grip on herself, but the forest was dead. There was not even a bird chirping or some stupid little rodent running up a tree, there was nothing. All that stood in that surrounding, besides a few trees, was a girl and whatever was looking at her. Still unable to decide on what to do, Minerva forced herself to breathe and access her situation. She couldn’t remember which way she had run into the woods. Minerva had never been in this forest and it was too dark to find some sort of landmark to lead her out. Her eyes couldn’t even adjust to the inevitable darkness. A sudden thought crossed Minerva’s mind, What if she died? Stop! Minerva commanded herself to stop talking such nonsense. This was absurd. She had to calm down or the chances of her getting out of this alive were slowly diminishing. There was a chance that the thing that was looking at her was a very bright eyed student that she could take in a fight. If the boy or girl decided to run, Minerva could chase them. Couldn’t she? Minerva had quick feet. Couldn’t she take them? Maybe? The doubts that were clouding Minerva’s mind were absolutely distracting to the poor girl. Minerva forced herself to take another big breath and blow it out. She wasn’t sure if the new noise that was given to the forest was a good or bad thing. It made her feel better, which was good, but the echo that it produced made this clearing more nerve racking.
Fear was not a pleasant thing for Minerva. It wasn’t much of a pleasant subject for anyone really, but Minerva had a particular difficulty with discussing it. What proud person did enjoy talking about their fears? Minerva presented a rigid persona that she had perfected over the years and she didn’t want some student ruining it. Perhaps if it was a vampire or werewolf or tiger she would feel a little bit better about herself. However, Minerva was sold it was an older student playing with her head. The person had yet to make a move. At least, they had yet to break eye contact. When it came to this type of hide and seek game, Minerva was never up to it. Others might dream of these types of adventures and these types of intense moments, but Minerva preferred it when things were all in her control and she had complete control of the situation. At the moment it was an equal playing field. At least as far as she could tell. She had no knowledge if the creature had seen her yet, it didn’t speak, or so she could see. This was why Minerva hated patrolling alone. What a rip off! If she had forced that kid to come with her, she would not be the only one in this predicament. In fact, she could have forced him to do it. Boys liked these things didn’t they? It was thrilling, it was an adventure, they could brag about it later to other boys. Although Minerva did have her doubts about that prefect. He was almost too scared to tell her he was missing prefect duty, imagine what he would have done facing some unknown object or form. Perhaps he would not have been heroic and sent this student to justice. Perhaps he would have cowardly run away. God, Minerva! She had to concentrate, but what could she do? There didn’t seem to be anything around that could help her.
Ironically, a little voice in the back of Minerva’s mind came to her rescue, You’re a witch, idiot. Right. Suddenly the wand that was being loosely held in Minerva’s hand seemed real, and everything seemed real again, Minerva was able to finally think straight enough for three seconds, so she could mutter a very helpful phrase, “Lumos.” The light from Minerva’s wand illuminated the clearing. The light seemed too bright in comparison to the darkness that had surrounded her moments ago. Blinking rapidly, Minerva tried to regain her vision. It was much harder than the task appeared. The contrast of light never did well for eyes. She would end up needing glasses in a few years if this kept up. Finally able to see again, the bright eyes did belong to a student. A Ravenclaw student and a prefect to boot. “What the hell is wrong with you?” The first words out of Minerva’s mouth were not the most proper words for a greeting between peers, but really, what on earth was Joshua O’Neil doing outside at this time of night in the Forbidden Forest? The shock that Minerva felt was almost as bad as the fear she had felt momentarily before. He wasn’t allowed out here. No one was allowed out here and why did he look so damn perfect? Minerva narrowed her eyes, Dippet could have his badge for this, why was he out here? What would drive him to come to the Forbidden Forest? Minerva had never noticed before how bright Josh’s eyes were. Of course she knew the boy. They had gone on prefect duty a few times together, not to mention he was one of the few boys she believed to actually meet her academically. Minerva bit her lip. She had always liked Josh, but this was breaking a rule. What was she to do? It was his fault, if he wasn’t out here to begin with, she wouldn’t be having this problem. But the fact he looked so controlled and so relaxed about this whole conundrum sent shivers up her spine. His calm demure was almost unnerving.
Minerva lowered her wand a bit. She wasn’t as scared as she had been before, now she was more confused. All these questions were popping into her head. Taking another breath (she seemed to be doing that a lot tonight) Minerva tried to rationalize with herself. Josh would have a good reason for being out here. He just would. Clearing her throat, and softening her tone, Minerva asked, “Josh, what are you doing out here and at this hour? I followed you from the castle. Please tell me you have some reason. I don’t want to have to report you.” Minerva’s green eyes met his again, “And why are you smiling? Now, is not the time to smile.” Minerva’s usual stern voice was beginning to seep through again, but she needed to know why. The one problem with Minerva was her necessity to know the answer to everything. One day it would probably kill her, but for now, in school, it wasn’t always such a bad thing. Maybe tonight it would turn into a bad thing, but for now. It couldn’t possibly kill her, right? How dangerous could Josh possibly be? He was a fellow prefect. If he attacked her, she knew she could match his skill. Unless he was more than a wizard… but that was a silly thought. Wasn’t it?

Joshua O'Neill , I'll have you know that I've become indestructible Determination that is incorruptable On the other side a terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable She was nervous. His heightened senses told him as much, although it wasn't like he needed them. The look on her face was evidence enough of her worry. Now attuned to her, he could hear the rapid pace at which her heart was beating. He could hear everything, up to and including the slow rhythmic sound of the blood flowing through her veins. No, this was definitely not a good thing. He had come out here tonight to feed, his once a week ritual that had been appointed to him by Headmaster Dippet. The fact that he had been followed, and confronted, by a student, brought harsh thoughts to mind. What if he lost his self control? What if he attacked her, drinking in her blood? It would be possible. Oh yes, he could kill her with barely the slightest effort, and her body would never be found. That would be weakness though, something that the prideful Ravenclaw had never quite given in too. No, that was what most of his kind would have considered the easy way out, and he had never been one to accept things that came so easily. Everything worth anything came with a price, and perhaps tonight that price would be his secret.
As she lit her wand, she provided a light to the clearing that allowed her to get a decent visual of him. He had known this would happen, Minerva not possessing the keen eyesight that allowed him to see in everything but total darkness. Now though, with the dim wand light illuminating the clearing, Josh allowed his eyes to move up and down her, actually taking her in for the first time tonight. Oh, it was by no means the first time that he had allowed himself to look at her, although tonight something seemed different. Perhaps it was the fact that she would be one of the few to learn his secret. Or perhaps it was the danger that he could give in to his more primal instincts and kill her, before she had the chance to even scream. Whatever the case, Minerva looked far more enticing tonight that she had previously, her dark hair draping elegantly over her shoulders. She really was quite attractive, if he would allow himself to admit as much, her dark eyes a fair contrast to the brightness of his own. Although the school uniform did little to highlight her figure, he could tell that if he had caught her in another ensemble, he might have found himself staring. Oh yes, she was a danger to him. Not only was she beautiful, but she was also intelligent. She might have been one of the few that could have rivaled him, that thought alone making him give pause. She would be noticed if she disappeared.
Her words pierced the silence, providing a small amount of comfort to an otherwise desolate clearing. The animals, usually plenty this close to the edge of the forest, had all scattered for the shelter of the older trees. They knew him for what he was, something of a sixth sense that allowed them to spot their predator before he had the chance to strike. None of them would dare take the chance that Minerva was taking right now, all of them knowing much better. Perhaps she wasn't as smart as he gave her credit for, or perhaps the vampirism affected human prey differently. He had always wondered if perhaps it made him more attractive, as a way to entice humans to gravitate toward him. Whether that was the case or not, he was still uncertain, although he know knew that he had to react. Her panic had seemed to subside slightly at his recognition, her heartbeat slowing down a little closer to where it should have been. Oh if only she knew what she was facing, then perhaps things would be as they should have been. In all fairness, she should have been running for her life, through hexes and everything else in her power to deter him until she could make it to the relative safety of the castle.
Running over his new set of options in his mind, Josh tried to carefully consider his potential choices. On one hand he could lie to her, convince her that he was out here for a reason other than his own. That was a possibility of course, although the chances of successfully lying to someone as intelligent as Minerva were slim to none. Knowing her, she would end up speaking with a professor, which could lead to all sorts of complications. No, his best bet would be to tell her the truth. Although how to go about doing it without her hexing him was another matter entirely. Then the idea came to him. It would be risky, although if his faith in his newfound abilities was well placed, he would be just fine. Moving with superhuman speed, speed only possible by one of his kind, Josh disappeared. He could only imagine what must be going through Minerva's mind at this very moment, seeing the boy before her simply vanish in the blink of an eye. Faster than she could react, Josh moved behind her, placing a firm grip on her wand arm, and his other hand on her shoulder. He quickly moved his mouth toward her ear, fighting the urge at the sound of the blood pumping through the vein that was so close. "Before you get any wild ideas, i'm not going to hurt you. I just don't feel safe with you dangling that wand out....not with what I'm about to say. I'm letting you go now.. don't do anything stupid."
Pulling himself away from her, Josh sighed inwardly. He had to admit to himself that the feel of his arm on her was enjoyable, and something that he wouldn't mind repeating under different circumstances. Slowly pulling back away from her, Josh tried to make himself look as harmless as possible, knowing how difficult that would be. Clearing his throat, Josh tried out a different tone, one laced with the charisma that had allowed him to charm his way out of almost every troubling situation he'd gotten himself into recently. "I'm not exactly like you Minerva... It was very risky following me out her tonight."

------------------------------------------------------------------- AND THE MORALS THEY ALL WORSHIP WILL BE GONE ! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps it was the dim light, the lack of moon, and the shadows of the trees, but Minerva had never appreciated how good looking Josh was. Okay, maybe it was because she never took a good look around at the opposite sex. Minerva was a rather simple girl, who kept her nose in books. It wasn’t really her cup of tea to run around gossiping about the hot guys at Hogwarts. She heard it of course. It was hard to escape the groups of first, second and even third years, which would gaggle together and make lists of the best looking guys in the school. Of the ones Minerva had confiscated, she recalled seeing Josh’s name a few times among a few others. Even the girls in her own grade, she could hear them talking about him. Not all the time, but she had certainly heard his name mentioned before, but why had she never realized? Wasn’t it a bit odd? After all the prefect duties they had been on together, why had she never turned and taken a good look at him? She had never thought about him in “that” way until tonight. Why, though? Such odd timing, wasn’t it? And, by far, completely inappropriate. She and Josh had a perfectly lovely relationship as prefect buddies, until he broke it tonight by coming out here. She was still waiting for his good reason. It was such a nuisance that he wouldn’t talk to her. Although, she had never taken a good look at the handsome boy who was now standing in front of her, she had always enjoyed talking to him. He was so much more intelligent than other boys in their grade, maybe it was because she thought of him as more mature? Yes, that was probably it. Well, the trust that she had built up in Josh this year was certainly starting to shatter.
The fact he had yet to say anything was starting to make Minerva nervous again. She kept her breathing controlled because she knew that was the only way to keep her concentrating. Her sanity by this time was probably hanging by a thread. Minerva had never liked practical jokes and if this was one, it was not funny. Her dark green eyes watched him very closely. He was definitely hiding something, everything about his smile and perfectly tossed hair pointed to it. Unless, Minerva hoped, it was not the real Joshua. Then, although fearful, Minerva would not have to feel so bad about reporting this incidence. Minerva had read all about polly juice potions and other sorts of human transformation. Maybe it was an impersonator. Minerva took a quick intake of breath. It wasn’t, it couldn’t be, the impersonator would have attacked her by now. Minerva didn’t know how to console herself. On one hand it was Josh and he was hiding something. On the other hand it could be an impersonator, but Minerva really was starting to doubt that idea. It was too unlikely. But if it wasn’t, what was Josh hiding? The question kept nagging Minerva. This night was just going from bad to worse. Josh had always seemed like such a nice and kind boy, and Minerva had always had a good sense of people. No, there was no way she was wrong about him. Although they had never really talked before this year, Minerva had always been decent at sizing people up and Josh was not one of those hooligans that she normally had to deal with. The fact he was out of the castle right at that moment and not even saying anything, just being creepy, was making Minerva doubt her ability to read people. She hated being wrong. “Oh dammit. Why hasn’t he moved? This starring contest they were starting to have was becoming a little ridiculous, right when Minerva was about to sternly tell him that he better come up with a good reason soon. He was gone.
Minerva strained her ears to hear footsteps. If he was going to run, she was going to chase him. She held no doubt in her mind that she could keep up with him. However, there was not crunch of dead leaves and no twigs were cracking. It was like he just vanished. Minerva starred at the spot he had just vanished from. That was impossible. Her heart beat quickened again against her will and her head started to pound. If he was gone that meant that she was alone. What a terrible, terrible thing. She was who knew where in the Forbidden Forest that she had never been in before. All her previous fears about being alone in the forest and her fears about having to deal with prefect duty on her own were starting to rush back to her. Minerva couldn’t help it. She tried to fight those rushed sensations, and she wanted to break and run, but something kept her glued to the spot. That horrid curiosity that she had. Her mother always said it was going to kill her one day. Well, today could end up being that day. Minerva wondered what could move that quickly. There weren’t many things. She had already eliminated early knowledge of apparition from the list of possible disappearances. She had read Hogwarts, A History and knew that no one could apparate onto or off the grounds, so there was no way Josh could have possibly managed that. No matter how good of a wizard he was, there was also no way he had learned that type of trick so early. They weren’t supposed to learn that until next year when they were all sixteen, or in their sixth year. So, that was impossible and not worth another thought, but there could be so many other possibly dangerous things that could move that fast. Werewolves? No, that was silly. He wasn’t harry enough. Well, really, she wouldn’t know. But there had to have been at least one full moon during their prefect duties, or getting close to it. They followed the moon cycles in Astronomy, wouldn’t she have noticed if it was approaching a full moon and he was feeling sick. A werewolf just sounded preposterous, but Minerva had to ponder what else was out there.
Plagued with her thoughts, Minerva barely stopped herself from screaming when a strong hand gripped her wand arm and shoulder. Frozen solid Minerva could barely breathe. She wanted to know what the meaning of this was and if her life should be passing before her eyes. The sudden adrenaline rush to run away quickly rushed through her, but that nagging sense of needing to know the answer kept her rooted to the spot. It was Josh. Minerva chanced a glance at the perpetrator that kept her immobile. Their closeness and his breath on her ear sent shivers all through her body. Then his enticing voice sounded in her ear, warning her, could she make the justification that it was a threat as well. Don’t do anything stupid. He had warned, Minerva finally found the strength to turn and face him, her face rigid. She wasn’t going to be manipulated that easily. Minerva lowered wand so it hung limply in her hand by her side, and whispered, “Really? You don’t feel safe.” There was a sarcastic bite in her voice as she eyed him warily. She wasn’t comfortable enough to put her completely away, but it could hang by her side for now. Minerva sternly looked up at him. His touch had left her and, although she would never admit it to anyone…ever, she missed it. She absentmindedly rubbed the spot where his hand had been moments before on her wand arm. His next words surprised her, how silly was he? This was not the response she had wanted to hear. He wasn’t like her. What was that supposed to mean? She didn’t want it to mean what she knew it meant. Sighing, Minerva glowered at the tall boy, “Of course you’re not like me, I don’t break rules.” She knew he meant something much more sinister, and she hoped the mocking in her voice wasn’t that evident. “I…I don’t really like the tone of your voice.” That was the first time in a long time that Minerva had stuttered. The weight of his words was finally starting to register with her. The situation was slowly slipping out of her control.
